Where Investors meet Entrepreneurs
Providing a viable alternative to interest based finance to small businesses and entrepreneurs is the essence of our Mushārakah proposition.
The development of Sharī‘ah-compliant home purchase plans and deposit accounts by many high street banks is something we welcome. However the development of these products whilst always being within the letter of Sharī‘ah has often not been within the spirit.
Mushārakah aims to provide grass root entrepreneurs with readily available finance which is both commercially sound, and crucially, rooted within the spirit and letter of the Islamic tradition. Mushārakah dervies from the Arabic work Shirkah, which means partnership in business, where a partner is referred to as ‘Sharīk’.
The recent credit crunch has highlighted the inherent dangers contained within the core of the modern banking system and the corresponding issuing of fiat money. Through our Mushārakah product, we offer clear proof of concept that an entirely different system of banking and finance can be developed.
We note the paying and receiving of interest was banned in all of the major world faiths according to their own respective texts. This includes the Abrahamic faiths; Islam, Christianity and Judaism , as well as Hinduism (as mentioned in the classical Vedic texts). Traditionally interest or usury has always been stigmatised, until the modern era.
We are open to all sectors apart from the sectors which are universally recognised as being unethical, namely; tobacco, alcohol, arms, pornography and gambling. Our commitment is to proactive social responsibility in the finance sector, and passive social responsibility in other sectors by refusing to invest in the unethical areas named above.
