Nemaura Pharma Limited are a specialist pharmaceutical firm focused on the transdermal delivery of medicines. Their primary products include a novel patented reservoir patch technology capable of delivering variable doeses of medicine at different time intervals directly via the skin thereby removing the need for cumbersome injections or multiple daily tablets.
To date Nemaura Pharma have successfully secured over £1 million in government grants to develop their products further, and further investment was being sought to enable the company to take products through to the clinics and regulatory approval.
Faz Chowdhry, head of product development at Nemaura, states, “I believe that success in business is measured not by revenue and profit alone, but by approach and methodology, and the values and principles that transcend an organisation.” To this endeavor Nemaura Pharma sought investment from a source that would be both of a high ethical standing, as well as providing strong support and sound commercial guidance.
The equity finance arranged by 1st Ethical has provided financial support on a risk-share basis allowing the company to focus on its strengths and long term commercial goals.
The technology platforms developed by the company offer exciting potential for a number of unmet clinical needs, and the company has already successfully identified a commercial partner who has committed to take their first product to market in late 2009, with further development programs in progress for a number of Pharmaceutical companies.
Faz Chowdhury comments, “The complete ethos is a different one. We are already thriving, having taken on board extremely dedicated highly skilled personnel. The medium to long term goal of the company is to establish itself as a major player in the field of delivering drugs through the skin for conditions ranging from the treatment of migraine and severe pain, to the treatment of depression, and those areas where there are clear unmet clinical needs.”
Whilst the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry has its fair share of challenges, novel and ingenious ideas backed by astute management can deliver very lucrative returns to investors.
