Our Strategy: Empowering though partnership

At 1st Ethical, empowering through partnership is a philosophy applied at many different levels.

We always source scholarly expertise, thereby ensuring our work is not only scripturally-compliant but also acceptable to the religious affiliations of the vast majority of British Muslims. We are non-sectarian and work across all denominations. This scholarly expertise is interwoven with the experience of various professional disciplines within our team, as well as advisors and consultants, thereby ensuring our work meets legal, regulatory, financial and professional standards.

We run seasonal on-ground campaigns and education and training programs, which are developed in collaboration with the expertise of leading charity partners excelling in their respective fields, and are delivered via our nationwide network of leading local organisations (Mosques, Schools, ISocs and more) that form the hub of their communities.

Below you will find lists of some of our partners

Please find below more information on our distribution channels:

Mosques

We work with the UK’s largest one hundred Mosques (out of sixteen hundred in the UK) in delivering our programs and campaigns and consequently have a close relationship with the Imams and trustees of these mosques. We categorise the largest mosques as those with over 1,000 attendance at weekly Friday (Jumu‘ah) prayers.

Fact: 52% of the Muslim population is based in only fifty parliamentary seats, which also overlap with the locations of the UK’s biggest Mosques whom we work with. (Source: 1st Ethical research conducted using the two most recent census data)

Muslim Schools

We work with 25% of Muslim educational institutes. This includes Muslim schools at primary and secondary level, as well as madrasahs (Mosque schools), in delivering our KS3 ilm2amal curriculum and campaigns.

University Islamic Societies

We work closely with Student Islamic Societies (ISocs) at most English and Welsh Russell Group Universities, giving us direct access to the top UK Muslim students.

Ethnic Media Partners

We write on a monthly basis for the UK’s six largest ethnic regional newspapers, appear on regional TV stations and have regular talk show slots at several of the top ethnic radio stations.

Social Media Partners

We have partnered with the most popular Muslim websites and social networks for our campaigns.

Our Grassroots Outreach

Through the above partnerships, we are able to reach:

- Hundreds of thousands of Muslims through the Friday sermons, as Muslims are obligated to be present at Friday prayers.

- Thousands of Muslim school children through our curriculum

- Thousands of Muslim student activists and professionals through our campaigns and education and training programs.

For example: our written guides and sermons (khutbahs) for our ‘How to pay your Zakāh’ campaign and ‘Preparing your Islamic Will’ campaigns have been annually distributed in hundreds of British Mosques since 2003.

Through our media partnerships outreach typically reached around 250,000 people and our website receives an average of 10,000 individual hits a month.
