The video below of an EDL supporter explaining his reasoning behind his protesting against the “Muzlamic Law” has rapidly gone viral thanks in large to its hilarious content. One feels that to write the gentleman off as drunk would spoil all the fun.
Yet at the same time, one can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of sadness at how deluded many people have become in our own country, and how they can be so ignorant concerning basic facts. In between your bouts of laughter, reflect over the fact that there are thousands of people like this man who share the same vitriol and hate – the Muslim community really needs to reach out and change some of the horrible misconceptions that are sincerely held out there, showing empathy and kindness to these lost souls for that is exactly what they are.
It worked for Ed Norton in American History X, so perhaps it’ll work for some of the EDL too…
When giving dawah it’s human instinct to reach out to people that are similar to you, that match your values, in simplistic terms the easy route to fulfil the obligation placed on you, very rarely do we go that extra mile and reach out to community’s like this to dispel some of the misconceptions they have.
An easy way to do this is to register (with a different e-mail address to your normal account of course ) on one of these social media groups that discuss the views held by the likes of the EDL, and in a calm, balanced manner try to provide the correct view of what we are about.
Don’t expect positive results straight away, if any.
Hang on ! Am I missing something here ?
Aren’t we, the Muslims supposed to have been brainwashed ?!!?
I wonder who is behind channelling these ex-football hooligans’ violent nature into stirring up Anti-Muslim feeling? Otherwise, how can you allow a bunch of thugs to ORGANISE and CARRY OUT marches through majority Muslim areas.
Would anyone be allowed to March through Stamford Hill (London) protesting against Israel ? I doubt it !!!
As funny as people find this video- I did feel sorry for the poor guy who is clearly completely ignorant. I agree with making efforts with such people and that is why I love my work so much. Some of the patients I treat are from a similar background, in your face, can be a bit rough & you wouldn’t normally approach them. Yet being in a clinical setting where they need your help and you can SHOW your concern as a fellow human being- hopefully the next time they see a bearded guy or a woman in hijaab- it’ll make them think twice. Indeed we need to find ways to just talk to those not in our social cliques!Certainly humbles one too!
The way I see it- this religion is too beautiful not to share and every non muslim is a potential muhsin! We just try our best and that’s all we have to do!

American History X is one of the few good black and white films. But really, how many Muslims do not have a single non-muslim friend? We need to be more sociable.
We follow a whole array of news and comment that is re-posted on this blog, with the intention of raising awareness on important issues within the media related to our campaigns and our vision, such that readers are empowered to benefit society.
